A computer software is as an interface between computer hardware and software and help them to communicate with each other is known as operating system. Computer has no use without an operating system because every computer functionality relies upon computer operating system. One of the main use of operating system is that it provide a graphical user interface(GUI) through which users can interact with the system.
These are the following some operating system which are used in the computers as per need of the user as follows.
Microsoft Windows Operating System : It is the series of operating systems and graphical user interfaces developed by Microsoft. This is not an open source technology no one can do modification in its source file bec it is not available in the market. The first version of Windows, was originally developed in 1985 as an add-on for computers using MS-DOS, which was one of the earliest ones. Throughout the years Windows has become the most dominant system in use and remains so today windows 7 is the latest operating system by the Microsoft technologies.
Linux Operating System : The Linux is an open source technology. Anyone can do embedment in this by just download the source and do some additional modification by adding source files .This is adopted as a server platform and can be easily incorporated directly into microchips in a process called "embedding". Linux is growing in popularity that’s why widely used in appliances and devices. With an its GUI; it becomes user-friendly as windows operating system . The Ubuntu latest version 9.10 is in this platform.
Unix Operating System : UNIX is an operating system which was first open source technology developed in the 1960s, and has been under constant development ever since. By operating system, we mean that suite of programs which make the computer work. It is a stable, multi-user, multi-tasking system for servers ,computers and laptops. The Solaris system is the latest operating system in this platform.
